COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING

Alphas Reading & Mentoring

Xi Lambda Chapter is a strong supporter of Alpha Phi Alpha’s national program, Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College. Our Go-to-High-School (GTHS) curriculum focuses on local mentoring to 7th and 8th grade boys at our adopted elementary school, Miles Davis Magnet Academy. Brothers make monthly campus visits to provide educational, social and career guidance in an effort to encourage academic excellence and to prepare the students for high school.

Xi Lambda’s Go-to-College (GTC) program concentrates on mentoring young men throughout the Chicagoland area, focusing on grades 9 thru 12. Monthly meetings at the eXceL Center offer educational, social and career support to inspire our young men to finish their high school careers and prepares them for college and beyond. We emphasize staying away from lifestyle choices and activities that often derail teenagers from obtaining their dreams and aspirations.

Our mentoring agenda also includes community service based programming in an effort to expose the young men to opportunities in and around Chicago they may not have had the chance to experience on their own. Xi Lambda’s GTC group is paired with a Chapter Brother in a mentee-mentor pair. The pair meets once a month as well, typically during our monthly mentoring sessions.

If you know of a young man between the ages of 13 and 17 that would benefit from our program, please click the link below and begin the application process.
